Process Engineer

Adams Land & Cattle has an exciting new opportunity for an individual to help lead the continuous improvement of our mill and flaker in Broken Bow, Nebraska and evaluate existing processes and systems to improve sustainability and develop best practices.  
 
This person will be responsible for:
 
  • Supporting/driving the overall safety strategy of the company. Exemplifying safety expectations.
  • A Process Engineer leads our efforts to identify and drive out losses through standards and system development. They support the daily activities of the feed mill and flaker areas, and build long term capability into the area, systems, and technicians. Daily work could encompass the following:
  • Becoming a technical expert in the operation of the feed mill, flaker, and boiler;
  • Becoming a technical expert in the equipment components (pumps, valves, belts, gearboxes, hydraulics) to identify defects and assist in performing maintenance;
  • Utilize business intelligence applications to monitor the daily performance of the mill and flaker and adjust daily action plan;
  • Understanding the feed ingredients and proper handling techniques;
  • Understanding feed ingredient and finished ration quality.
  • Utilizing, monitoring, and troubleshooting mill computer software programs.
  • Driving a culture of continuous improvement:
  • Developing and coordinating preventive maintenance strategies to identify equipment wear and turn unplanned downtime into planned downtime;
  • Using root-cause analysis to identify, prioritize, and eliminate losses and inefficiencies, including:
  • Identify and implement actions to improve safety;
  • Eliminating causes of equipment stops, alarms, and operator touches;
  • Using statistical process control to reduce variation and improve product quality;
  • Understanding causes of equipment breakdowns and implementing operating, maintenance, and engineering solutions to reduce breakdowns.
  • Collaborating with technical experts, other functions, and vendors to create the best solutions;
  • Creating learning programs and coaching and training technicians;
  • Creating and improving standards to enable us to achieve the performance targets for the production line;
  • Assisting with delivery and start-up of new equipment, initiatives, and projects;
  • Working with Projects, Maintenance, and Feeding teams to coordinate projects and planned downtime, back-up feeding, and off shift work.
  • Communication and Leadership:
  • Communicating and supporting company strategies and changes.
  • Training and developing new and current team members, while communicating progress and areas of opportunity to management.
  • Working closely with all levels of the organization and promoting effective and positive relationships with other teams.
 
Skills and qualifications:
 
  • Have a BS degree in engineering. We prefer Agricultural, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, though we may also consider other engineering.
  • Strong computer skills. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Desire and ability to learn and datasets and data relationships to build reports in Microsoft Power BI.
  • Previous experience in statistical software preferred.
  • Desire and ability to learn basic skills in control system software and PLC.
  • Commitment to safety and quality culture.
  • Exceptional ability to use analytical techniques for problem solving, coordination, and decision making.
  • Driven, organized, action-oriented, analytical, and ability to multi-task.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Individual must be team-oriented.
  • Professional communication (both verbal and written) and customer service skills.
  • Serve all customers both internally and externally with a positive, professional, respectful, and courteous attitude with honesty and integrity.

This position requires:
 
  • Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, if needed.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally; 25-50 pounds of force frequently; 10-20 pounds of force constantly. Standing and sitting frequently; walking, carrying, and lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, climbing, crawling, stairs, reaching/handling/grasping, and kneeling/crouching occasionally.
  • Individual must be able to perform maintenance and inspections at the top of grain bins/elevators and flaker of elevations up to approximately 100ft.
 
 
Compensation Details:
 
  • Salary range of $60,000-$75,000 annually
