Engineering Internship Summer 2023

Engineering students can get paid to work alongside professional civil and environmental engineers of the Indian Health Service during their summer break. Programs last between 30 and 120 days in Summer 2023.

Students will work in collaboration with the Indian Health Service's Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction or Division of Facilities Management.

Duties may include
Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction (Water, Wastewater, Solid Waste)
  • Assists with engineering tasks required for the design of individual and community sanitation facilities including water supply and distribution, sewage collection and treatment and solid waste collection and disposal methods.
  • Visits sites to obtain information such as condition of systems, location of sewer mains, local water pressures, plumbing layouts, etc., investigates malfunctioning water and sewer system components, and assists with preliminary diagnosis.
  • Estimates cost, manpower, and material necessary to correct malfunctioning systems.
  • Inspects active construction of water and wastewater facilities or healthcare facilities for compliance with designs and specifications and safety requirements.
Division of Facilities Management (Healthcare Facilities)
  • Participation in activities related to the design and construction of assigned projects.
  • Assist with development of drawings and specifications for routine projects.
  • Review engineering texts, periodicals, manufacturer's publications and agency technical material to obtain information on material, equipment, and pertinent data to accomplish projects and improve operation of building and building systems.
  • Observe and participate in the nature and scope of operation, modification, and repair of facilities.
  • Visit campus sites to obtain specified information on condition of existing structures.

Eligibility
• Undergraduate students with 1-4 years of study in engineering or construction management (Rising sophomores, juniors & seniors)
• Recent graduates
• Master's students in engineering or construction management
• US citizenship required

Benefits
Pay ranges from $14.38-$23.48 per hour
