About Our Team
For 20 years, the Wireless Platform Group of Analog Devices has developed Software Defined Radio solutions for cellular telephone base stations.  From 1G to 5G, our market-leading customers have depended on our designs to launch their most advanced products.  Every day your cellphone most likely connects through our radio products.  Analog Devices is organized as business units such as WPG, each assigned a market to service, with control of R&D decisions and the responsibility to return a profit to ADI.  As our team has grown, maintaining our aggressive entrepreneurial spirit has been critical to our success.

Whom we are looking for
A product test engineer develops tests and software to ensure our products meet customer performance expectations in their cellular base stations. If you have ever thumbed through a datasheet and wondered who collects and verifies the data used in the performance plots and specification table, that’s us.  The demands of 5G communications require ultimate performance for linearity and signal purity at RF frequencies for both transmit and receive paths.  The base station electronics are mounted on towers where weight is the critical design constraint.  All cooling is passive, and our components are expected to maintain operation and performance at extreme temperatures.  The characterization engineer uses their knowledge of radio architecture and subsystems, analog and digital communications, and RF measurement methodologies to subject our products to a list of tests that will ensure operation and performance in the customer’s application.

Who you are
You are more than just the assigned project.  You’re driven by your curiosity to understand how things work – and to fix them when they don’t.  When you buy a new high-tech item, you take the old one apart to see what you can learn from it before recycling it.  You want to develop advanced products that will enable features for the whole world to use, and it depends on you and your team to solve numerous and unpredictable problems.  You want a position so exciting and challenging that you lose track of time when working and sometimes wake up in the morning with solutions no one has ever considered.  But work isn’t your whole life.  You have interests outside of work and need a flexible, hybrid work schedule that allows you to work from home two days a week, fully supported and enabled by a company fully invested in the tools, equipment, and culture to make it successful.

The position
The Product Test Engineering position will develop hardware and software for characterization and system evaluation on high volume fully automated and low volume lab bench equipment from product conception to manufacturing release in our Wireless Platform Group.  Key responsibilities include:
May perform some or all of the following:

  • Design (individually and as part of a team) software and hardware to characterize and production test state-of-the-art ICs
  • Characterization of pre-release silicon encompassing the total solution including analog, digital, and firmware algorithms.
  • Work in a design team to formulate test strategies for developing comprehensive tests ICs
  • Use statistical analysis tools and reports oriented for validation of products to set test limits on new products and datasheets
  • Develop verification and characterization test plans and develop the software required to automate the data collection process.
  • Perform lab analysis and evaluation of new silicon and software, working with a multi-functional team to identify and correct functional and parametric problems.
  • Participate in project development including support of design-for-testability, product qualification, and ongoing support of products in production
  • Interface with design, product evaluation, process, manufacturing, quality, and marketing as the product(s) move to completion and distribution
Minimum Qualifications
0-5 years experience with RF/Mixed-Signal Test Development
BSEE required MSEE preferred

  • Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills toward the capture of aggressive schedule demands
  • Knowledgeable in RF measurements and signal processing
  • Familiarity with embedded software and verification practices.
  • Strong teamwork ability within multi-discipline and multi-cultural environments
  • Successful course work in at least one of the following areas: RF circuits,  ADCs, DACs, high-speed serial interfaces, and/or microcontrollers
  • Lab experience using bench and/or production test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators
  • Working knowledge of and/or experience with LabVIEW, Python, Visual BASIC, HTML, and/or C/C++

Differentiating Qualifications
  • RF and communication systems education background.
  • Working understanding of RF transceivers and their different sub-blocks. (Plls, Mixers, LNAs, ADCs\DACs, JESD)
