The ADI team is seeking a motivated, Product Applications Engineering Intern to provide support to our Automotive USB Product Line, within the Power Systems Business Unit located at ADI’s Chandler Office.
The internship will take place within a team of six applications engineers to help support world class power management products for Automotive USB systems.
Products include USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) chargers for the Automotive market.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:  

  • Performing bench measurements, debugging, and understanding of USB integrated circuits. 
  • Preparing validation reports in Excel and creating technical documentation.
  • Understanding of USB functionality, terminology, and specifications.
  • Validating embedded microcontroller firmware and GUI. Run and debug USB-C compliance tests. 
  • Work with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team composed of business management, design, applications, test, and product engineering to help validate the product. 
  • Application circuit development. There is frequent need to develop & test new application circuits and reference designs. These circuits solve customer application problems and showcase ADI products.
Minimum qualifications  
  • Pursuing or graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
Preferred qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree plus relevant work experience.
  • Previous internship experience in semiconductor with consistent track record of results.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills. Experience debugging circuits.
  • Ability to self-manage and meet deadlines. Can work both independently and with a cross-functional team.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical/computer/software engineering fundamentals
  • Understanding of control theory, system design, circuit design, power switch design, and magnetics design is essential.
  • Solid hands-on experience with lab equipment (i.e., oscilloscope, electronic-load, spectrum analyzer/EMI receiver, bode plot analyzer, vector network analyzer).
  • Experience in USB Type-C, USB Power Delivery & Compliance testing, DC/DC conversion, Signal Integrity, I2C, EMC, ESD, IC engineering (package, thermal, statistics), Automotive specifications.
  • Experience in Cadence Allegro PCB design, SIMPLIS, Contour JAMA.
  • Experience in Customer Support, Embedded Firmware, GUI development or Video editing is a plus.
