Manufacturing Engineer (Avionics)

MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (AVIONICS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as the primary liaison between avionics engineering, supply chain, production, etc. to ensure rate objectives are met through manufacturing and test
  • Support both part production and manufacturing/test process development within the team's area of focus and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Implement, simplify, and automate high reliability manufacturing and test processes such that the production teams can operate independently of engineering
  • Work with peer engineering and support teams to drive design updates in response to manufacturing issues, part obsolescence, and system requirement changes
  • Spearhead cost reduction efforts and implement initiatives to meet and exceed departmental objectives while never compromising on quality
  • Design, develop, validate, and implement tooling to ensure repeatability and efficiency
  • Contribute to design reviews acting as an expert in design for manufacturability, design for testability, yield improvements, supplier capabilities assessments, quality control, etc.
  • Primary point of contact for non-conforming product, troubleshooting, root cause, failure investigations and corrective actions
  • Prepare engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to production including assembly procedures, test procedures, standard operating procedures, schematic diagrams, bills of materials, suitable alternate parts lists and mechanical drawings
  • Develop training requirements for production personnel
  • Work creatively and innovate to support SpaceX's lofty goals by always being prepared to challenge the status quo

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in design, manufacturing, and/or production of mechanical or electrical hardware systems (internship and collegiate extracurricular engineering project experience qualifies)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 3+ years of professional experience in design and/or production of mechanical or electronics hardware systems
  • Experience implementing design for manufacture and design for test for electromechanical hardware
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations for design and manufacturing readiness reviews
  • Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced iterative design environments
  • Experience modeling with 3D CAD software such as: NX/Unigraphics, Catia, Solidworks
  • Working proficiency with DFMEA and PFMEA methodology and implementation
  • SPC knowledge and experience applying statistical methods to track process capability
  • Experience with PCBA, electromechanical assembly, and test processes
  • Basic competency with SQL databases
  • Demonstrated experience designing tooling in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on engineer with a passion for continuous improvement and building the best hardware
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
  • Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environments within the consumer electronics, mobile handset, medical devices, aerospace, marine or automotive industries.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or overtime as needed
  • Some travel to outside vendors may be required (up to 10%)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:  
Pay range:  
Manufacturing Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year  
Manufacturing Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year  
   
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
