Structural Engineering Internship: Summer 2023

Overview

Since opening our doors in 1979, Collins Engineers, Inc. has provided engineering services in structural and transportation analysis and design. Today, Collins is an ENR Top 500 Design Firm that continues to grow our multi-disciplined firm by providing design and analysis services coupled with field experience to the transportation, marine, construction, and land development industries.
 
Collins offers an opportunity for a civil engineering student to gain experience doing structural inspections. The Salt Lake City, UT office has an opening for a Structural Engineering Intern position for the Summer of 2023 and with the possibility of continuing throughout the school year. We are looking for a college student with an interest in structural engineering that will be in their junior or senior year at the time of the internship. You will be paired with professional licensed engineers observing structural inspections and creating reports using data collected from field sites. You will be able to get hands-on experience collaborating on structural engineering inspection projects and working on other various tasks with our seasoned engineers.
 
SUMMARY:
The Engineering Intern performs routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. This position reports to a Project Manager. 


TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Performs structural inspections and prepares inspection reports.
  • Prepares and/or checks structural calculations.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Field work will be required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Junior or senior working towards a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. 
  • Previous software experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Blue Beam, or Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Previous software experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF or other PDF editing software is a plus. 
  • A valid driver's license.
