Power Electronics Engineer (Starlink)

POWER ELECTRONICS ENGINEER (STARLINK)
Starlink believes in providing fast, reliable internet to those that need it most. We design, build, and launch the world's largest and most advanced satellite constellation that is capable of delivering high-speed internet to even the most remote locations. And while our hardware and network are incredibly advanced, we keep the end-user experience impressively simple - our customers have internet within 10 minutes of unboxing.
As a Power Electronics Engineer on Starlink, you will spearhead the design and development of the power supply for millions of consumer-facing devices that we ship directly to customers and businesses all over the world. From private homes, RVs, planes, or boats, you will play an instrumental role in leveling the playing field for high-speed connectivity. You will own hardware from cradle to grave and will interact regularly with senior leadership during critical design phases.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide engineering expertise in the area of design, analysis, and testing of AC/DC and DC-DC power converters
  • Work on electrical power system and sub-system level design trades and develop requirements
  • Define and perform electrical power system verification testing and analysis
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams of design, test, and production engineers to create new power electronics hardware
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 1+ years of experience designing electronic products or hardware (internship, class project, and extracurricular experience is applicable)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 3+ years of experience in power converter development
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Strong grasp of AC/DC and DC-DC topologies, with ability to select optimal architectures and components
  • Strong grasp of analog control and discrete logic design
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics
  • Working experience in voltage and current mode control and compensation design
  • Experience with AC-DC converters and power factor correction
  • Understanding of design for fault tolerance and reliability
  • Familiarity with design of wire wound and planar inductors and transformers
  • Familiarity with power supply testing and packaging
  • Experience with in-lab impedance measurement and loop-gain measurement
  • Familiarity with electrical power systems and knowledge of electromagnetic radiation effects
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
