Process Improvement Intern - Summer 2023, South Bend, WA

As a key member of our growing team, the Process Improvement Intern will be responsible for analyzing and recommending improvements to the daily processing, production, and operations by conducting time studies. This exposure will allow you the opportunity to partner with various team members and others to learn about our current processes, systems, and procedures to identify and implement quantifiable improvements.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Be a role model in projecting and applying The Pacific Group Diamond Philosophy (Productivity, Quality, Excellence and Teamwork) at all times
  • Partner with team members to develop an understanding of the entire seafood production process, associated process flows, and costing models through hands-on experience, observation and analysis.
  • Create and conduct time studies for various items
  • Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of processes (including the use of continuous improvement, project management and change management practices).
  • Collect and analyze data to help streamline our processes
  • Focus on improving cost, labor, and process efficiency
  • Document current-state processes and prepare future-state project proposals, summaries and performance measurements.
  • Observe and analyze plant operations using various process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, or TQM, etc.) and make recommendations which lead to efficiency gains, expense reduction, improved quality and service enhancements.
  • Develop systems and processes for finding efficiencies, identifying process waste and person/process idle points.
  • Create monitoring tools and processes to measure and document KPI performance, efficiency gains and cost savings of process improvement recommendations.
  • Prepare project overview and present findings to executive leadership.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
 
What You Bring to Pacific Seafood
Required
  • Pursuit of a Business related undergraduate/graduate degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Prior work experience in a related field and a professional office environment
  • Strong math and cost modeling experience.
  • Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering coursework, knowledge of food production a plus.
  • Experience with various process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, or TQM
