River Transportation and Logistics Intern

River Transportation and Logistics Intern, ARTCo - various locations

ARTCo (American River Transportation Company) Transportation Interns will be trained & observe in the overall management of operations of ARTCo facilities and Towing Vessels including,
but not limited to general and maritime safety; people management; basic accounting; managing capital assets; repairs, trouble
shooting and maintenance; regulatory issues; and implementation of safety programs and procedures.  

During the internship period, interns will be located at one of ARTCo locations and should have exposure to all aspects of the operation and commercial functions at that location. Our Internships are 11 weeks in duration during the summer. These are paid positions which include fully-furnished, company-paid housing. Standard costs are reimbursed for relocating to and from the assigned location.
Locations include: Cairo, IL; Peoria, IL; St. Louis , MO; Westwego, LA; Clinton, IA
 
Additional assignments may include the following:
  • Vessel ride along and operation overview
  • Job shadowing of office personnel
  • Implementation of ADM, OSHA, safety programs and procedures
  • Regulatory issues, including USCG, AWO, DOT, OSHA, EPA, DNR, etc.)
  • Basic accounting (understanding a balance sheet); and computer skills
  • Introduction into ARTCo sustainability and environmental programs
  • Participation in company meetings and meetings with vendors/customers

At the end of the internship program the intern should have a basic understanding of the commercial and operations functions at the location and an understanding of the individual roles that contribute to those processes.  
 
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess or be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree
  • GPA of 2.8 or greater is preferred
  • Open to relocation throughout the U.S.
  • Has adequate transportation that allows you to go to and from your internship
  • ADM requires the successful completion of our pre-employment process, which may include a background check, medical history questionnaire and other job-related functional evaluations

This ideal candidate will also:
  • Possess leadership skills
  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Have the ability to work near or on large bodies of water, at various heights and in confined spaces
  • Ability to wear a respirator or dust mask (if needed) and to work in varying conditions such as hot, cold, dusty, etc.
  • Must be able to acquire a TWIC Transportation Workers Identification Credential
