MT Program: 
The Management Trainee Program is a non-rotational program that develops leaders who will drive the future of our organization. It’s a paid, full-time program for recent graduates with less than four years of professional work experience. Career opportunities will follow with hard work, the desire to learn, and the ability to develop productive working relationships. 
 
Upon arrival at BNSF, Management Trainees receive an overview of our railroad and industry during orientation at our Fort Worth, Texas headquarters. Once the one-week orientation is complete, Management Trainees move into their assigned departments for on-the-job training, if in corporate departments (Accounting/Finance, Corporate Audit, Human Resources, Marketing, Sourcing, or Technology Services). If in an operations department (Engineering, Mechanical, or Transportation), following orientation, you will spend time at our Technical Training Center in Overland Park, Kan., learning to lead a diverse workgroup to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals that are in line with the company's vision.

JOB DESCRIPTION 
The Management Trainee (MT) Program is specifically designed to develop leaders who will drive the future of our organization. This training program is approximately 6 months in length and includes both classroom and on-the-job training. You will gain experience in our Track, Engineering Services, Structures, Signal, Mechanical, Transportation, and Environmental departments. With challenging work, the desire to learn, and the ability to develop relationships, career opportunities are endless.   
 
RELOCATION WILL BE REQUIRED.
  • A candidate must be willing to be relocated to any location across the BNSF system for the training program 
  • Once training has been completed, candidates will most likely be relocated again to an assigned, permanent location 
  • An ideal candidate should be very flexible regarding location 
  • Relocation assistance may be provided to those who are moving more than 50 driving miles from their permanent residence 
 
TRAVEL:   
  • Frequent and extensive travel over a large geographic region will be required. 
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The management trainee program is an intensive training program that lasts approximately 6 months 
  • MTs will attend an initial 2-week orientation conducted at our company headquarters in Fort Worth, TX where trainees will learn about the BNSF culture, network with leaders of the company and receive leadership training 
  • From Fort Worth, trainees will attend a 2-week technical, and personnel training conducted at our Technical Training Center (TTC) in Overland Park, KS where trainees will learn about operations and field safety 
  • The remaining time will be spent completing on-the-job field training conducted at assigned training location which will include instructor led and web-based training courses as well as numerous job shadows across multiple departments
  • BNSF will also support and assist in full-time Engineering employees who wish to complete testing and obtain their PE license  
 
UPON COMPLETION OF THE MANAGEMENT TRAINEE PROGRAM:
  • Management trainees will likely be placed in a Supervisor Engineering Support position (career progression after this is employee driven)-see below for more information on this position 
  • Relocation will likely be required upon placement into permanent assignment  
 
SUPERVISOR ENGINEERING SUPPORT INFORMATION & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Responsible for supporting 3 functional areas: Track, Signal, and Structures 
  • Provide various administrative support functions to the Engineering First Line Supervisor (FLS) including, but not limited to: management of scheduled manpower activity, capital plan coordination and oversight, material management, claims management, re-collectible activity management, safety management, equipment and vehicle fleet management 
  • Accurately process and code all invoices within 15 days of receipt and produce accurate reports of cost, vehicle, safety and flag exceptions for the FLS within timeframe required by each report 
  • Provide leadership vacation relief and weekend coverage 
  • This is not an exhaustive list of the position’s duties 
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work in a 24 x 7 operations environment including nights, weekends, evenings and holidays, on-call or available for emergency situations 
  • Hours are irregular with a minimum of 40 hours per week 
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet) 
  • Work around heavy and moving machinery 
  • Work around electronics, including electric currents 
  • Work in and around bridges in elevated locations
 
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher with a degree in Engineering or Construction Management OR a 2.75 or higher cumulative GPA with a non-Engineering degree. 
  • Must have less than four (4) years of work experience in a professional work environment, excluding internships or positions held while in high school or college
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Construction Management or an Engineering program from accredited university to be completed prior to hire OR have obtained a degree within the past four (4) years.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Not require BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise), now or in the future, to obtain, maintain, or extend my employment authorization (including H-1B or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to relocate within the BNSF Railway operating system to start and/or upon career progression and/or business need.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in an engineering or construction related environment.
  • Experience working outdoors or in an industrial environment.
  • Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication.
