Summary

Work under the direction of project manager to accurately and efficiently design HVAC and plumbing systems. Design work includes simultaneous work on parallel multiple projects, each delivered on schedule, with high client satisfaction.

·        Apply heat transfer principles, demonstrating knowledge of the factors that affect each specific situation to accurately calculate thermal loads for buildings, using company standard software. Check loads and ensure accuracy and adequacy.

·        Demonstrate knowledge of psychrometric processes, particularly moist air properties, evaporation, enthalpy, and temperature change, plus the basic HVAC processes. Properly design HVAC systems based on psychrometric principles; conduct a psychrometric analysis of HVAC components such as air handling units, heating and cooling coils, humidifiers and de-humidifiers; evaluate the needs of individual spaces within a building.

·        Demonstrate knowledge of air system design principles including of the basics of air movement; the components of air distribution systems; considerations of human comfort; load and occupancy demand; duct system design; sound and vibration; and how codes and standards affect the design of air systems. Size and route duct systems, properly locate diffusers, calculate duct system pressure drops.

·        Design heating systems, including the fuel source; the energy conversion plant; and the energy distribution system.

·        Design hydronic systems, including system design, pipe sizing, distribution, terminal devices, pumps, water treatment, and accessories.

·        Demonstrate knowledge of control theory by selecting input and output control devices, defining user input variables, evaluating logic statements, and developing sequence of operations. Communicate design through written sequence of operations and control schematic drawings.

·        Demonstrate proficiency in ventilation calculations, and design and document systems in compliance with ASHRAE Standard 62.1: Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality

·        Develop designs in compliance with Energy Code, and complete Comcheck documentation.

·        Read and interpret structural and electrical drawings in order to meet electrical demands; coordinate with structure, lights and electrical rooms; and review construction documents to ensure coordination.

·        Follow company standards on all design processes, and maintain clear and accurate documentation of assumptions and client directions, calculations and conclusions.

·        Size equipment based on loads and in accordance with industry and company standards.

·        Estimate energy consumption of different systems, using spreadsheets and other simplified methods.

·        Design plumbing systems in compliance with prevailing code and Company design standards.

·        Design natural gas systems, including developing gas schematics, sizing and routing piping, and detailing connections.

·        Edit specifications to document and communicate design intent.

·        Demonstrate knowledge of codes and standards, and ensure that all work complies with all codes and regulations.

· Ensure that construction documents are accurate, clear and coordinated.
