2022 Summer Communications Intern (Remote)

POSITION OVERVIEW 
The Partnership’s communication efforts are designed to change public perceptions, educate the public about the need for a high-performing government and help connect citizens to their government. In addition, the Communications team ensures that Partnership programs and activities are heard, understood and actionable. 

Communications interns are integral members of the Communications team and assist with writing, editing and brainstorming new ideas. Our interns generate the Partnership’s weekly newsletter, help the team plan and execute events from start to finish including the Partnership’s annual Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, manage the Partnership’s social media outreach including Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, support media relations efforts and assist with our email marketing, event invitations and constituent database. This is a terrific opportunity for individuals who are interested or have experience in communications, marketing or event planning. 

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a team player and has excellent writing, organization and public speaking skills. Interns will have the opportunity to develop experience representing the Partnership to the public. Interns also gain experience using CRM and email marketing systems, web and graphic design programs, media monitoring tools and other highly marketable skills for communications professionals. 

Launched in summer 2021, the Partnership’s Alliance for Congress is dedicated to building a Congress that fully upholds its constitutional obligations and represents the needs and interests of our entire diverse nation. The Alliance works to build a forward-looking version of Congress that tackles big problems for the people it serves, fully reflects and represents our diverse nation and works collaboratively with the executive branch, making the whole of government more effective. 

The Alliance for Congress seeks a communications intern to support the communications director, manager and associate manager with critical items including social media, blog and editorial content, messaging and graphic design to support the Alliance. Ideal candidates for this internship will have a flexible mindset and aptitude for fast-paced environments, working knowledge for Congress and be an avid consumer of news and emerging media trends.

 
REPORTING STRUCTURE 
This position typically reports to an associate or associate manager. 
 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
This job operates in a professional office environment in Washington, DC. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer and scanner. Please note that as a result of COVID-19, Partnership staff are currently working remotely 
 
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 
Business hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, though exact work hours may vary depending on availability and need. Academic schedules will be accommodated; a part-time schedule may be considered. There may be occasional early morning or evening activities required.

The Public Service Internship Program is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent graduates to contribute to the Partnership’s mission while developing valuable professional skills.

  • HR and Operations: ideal for those interested in nonprofit operations/management, talent acquisition, project management, human resources 
  • Center for Presidential Transition: ideal for those interested in presidential transition 
  • Research, Analysis and Program Evaluation: ideal for those interested in social science research 
  • Federal Hiring and Employee Engagement: ideal for those interested in data collection and analysis, relationship management, event planning and logistics, and the federal hiring process

COMPENSATION 
Interns receive the following compensation: 
  • Full-time interns with an undergraduate or graduate degree will receive $1,000 per month 
  • Full-time interns who are currently undergraduate students will receive $800 per month 
  • Part-time intern compensation will be pro-rated accordingly 
 
TRAVEL 
If travel occurs, it is local and during the business day. 
 
LOCATION 
Must be based in the United States for the duration of the internship.

VACCINATION POLICY 
 
Effective October 15, 2021, all Partnership employees, regardless of position or physical location, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as a condition of employment. A simple unnotarized copy of the official vaccination card or a notarized COVID-19 Vaccination Form attesting to full vaccination must be provided to the Vice President of Human Resources, prior to October 15, 2021. For new employees starting work with the Partnership on or after October 1, 2021, the documentation must be provided within two weeks after the start date. 
 
If you believe you qualify for an exception from the requirements of this policy, for medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs, you must provide a letter (on letterhead) from your doctor or clergy to the Vice President of Human Resources by the above deadline. The Partnership will explore potential reasonable accommodations for you that would not cause undue hardship to the Partnership. However, such reasonable accommodations are not required and cannot be guaranteed.
