Title: Camp Nurse - Summer
Duration: 6 weeks (June 13-July 29th, 2022. No camp July 2nd-8th, 2022.)
Pay: $11.25 per hour, $450 per week, $2700 total for 6 weeks
Supervisor: Emily Archambault
Description:  What’s Camp Sharing Meadows, and how can you become involved in this unique, life-changing camp as one of our nurses?
  • What we do: Camp Sharing Meadows is a week-long values retreat for other-abled adults (otherwise known as adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities). Here, the Campers have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities, socialize with their peers, and, most importantly, grow spiritually!
  • When and Where: Our summer contract starts on June 13th and ends July 29th, 2022. There will be no camp from July 2nd-8th, 2022. Each week of camp starts with training at 2 PM CST on Sunday and ends at approximately 2:00 PM CST on Friday afternoon. Before our summer contract, we’re hoping that all camp staff come to the May Mini--Camp from May 13-15th (more details forthcoming). Camp is held in the St. Timothy Center in Rolling Prairie, IN.
  • Who’s Involved: Camp is composed of approximately 25 campers, 1 Assistant Camp Director, 8-10 Camp Ministry Interns, 2 Cooks, and 1 Nurse. Our focus is promoting equality among campers and staff to create a place where everyone is valued and respected for their unique personalities and talents.
Basic Requirements: The Camp Nurse is required to distribute prescription medications to campers at the assigned times and in the correct doses.  The Nurse will also be responsible for handling minor medical issues such as injuries, illnesses and the distribution of non-prescription medication.  The Nurse is expected to travel with the group away from the camp building to the pool, camp fires, hayrides, visiting the horse corral, and fishing and boating at Tucker Lake on Sharing Meadows grounds. Once nursing duties are complete, the Nurse is welcome to join the campers during meals and camp activities such as dancing, games, celebrations with God, group discussions, even crafts activities, OR she/he may have her/his own time (please always let the Assistant Camp Director know where she/he is in case of a medical emergency). The Nurse will stay overnight in the Nurse’s room in order to be available at all times unless other accommodations have been made and is approved by the Director of Camp Programming.  The Nurse must act in a conscientious, understanding and caring manner toward the Campers and Staff. Staff has weekends (Friday afternoon -Sunday morning) off!
Training or Requirements: Previous nursing experience is required, however you do not need to take the RN nursing licensing exam to work with us.  We will consider RN’s, LPN’s, medical assistants, school nurses, and retired nurses.  The Nurse must know CPR and first aid.  The Nurse must demonstrate patience, tolerance and a compassionate nature when working with other-abled adults over the age of 18.  Additional training is provided in the required orientation held two hours before each camp worked.
Organization Overview:  The Share Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to serve other-abled people and their families in Northwest Indiana. We foster a peaceful, rural, and Christian community for the other abled on 185 acres of land - Sharing Meadows. Here, we have a residential program with 5 villages that are home to 27 other-abled adults. We also have six week-long summer camp/values retreat at Sharing Meadows where other abled adults can socialize in a peaceful, loving environment.
