Summer Enrichment Coordinator: AmeriCorps

Summer Enrichment Coordinators will be responsible for executing our annual Summer Enrichment program. You will work in a team and be responsible for providing day camp experiences to our youth which will include activities offered within the housing communities, in the local area, and occasionally trips to nearby areas. The activities you plan will cover objectives set by the organization which are: Problem Solvers, Healthy Minds & Healthy Bodies, Artists and Creators, and Competent, Motivated Readers. It is also likely that you will support and engage partnerships with other local organizations to provide lunches, and other resources to the community you will be serving for the summertime.

Objectives of Service as a Summer Enrichment Coordinator: 
  • You will enroll youth from your assigned neighborhood in DREAM’s Summer Enrichment Program.
  • You will support surveying of youth to review and understand the effectiveness of DREAM’s programming. 
  • You will develop a sense of team with fellow SummerCorps members.
  • You and your team will plan and execute nine (9) weeks of summer enrichment activities for youth living in low income housing.
  • You and your team will communicate with the caregivers of youth who are enrolled in your program on a daily basis.
  • You will strive to provide a physically, emotionally, and mentally safe and inclusive environment for youth and staff/members.
  • You and your team will provide youth with magical, memorable, enriching summer experience in and around their local communities.

Required Qualifications: 
  • Commitment to the mission of AmeriCorps and DREAM.
  • Desire to enhance existing skills and develop new skills necessary for service.
  • Commitment to serve as a role model for youth.
  • A passion for supporting ongoing work around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Experience working or living in a diverse and inclusive environment with elevated, demonstrated awareness of issues of social equity and social justice.
  • Demonstrated practice or education serving diverse communities or populations of people of color in an equitable manner and a manner that is respectful and aware of the community's experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and set priorities while giving consideration to those serving, your fellow team members, the organization, and the self.
  • A dedicated room/space to complete components of service that is not at a DREAM-supported site.
  • An internet connection capable of easily handling Google Workspace apps and specifically, a Google Hangout/Meet.
  • Access to resources necessary to support your service experience (electrical power outlet to keep devices charged, reliable wifi connection that can connect with our cloud-based softwares).
  • Ability to regularly meet in person with your team or your service assignment in their assigned location (including responsibility for transportation to and from).
  • Access to a reliable phone.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Previous youth work experiences or motivations/preference for youth work and youth services. 
  • Creativity, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Current driver’s license, proof of insurance, and clean driving record.
  • First aid and CPR certification by the time summer sessions begin. (If not currently certified, DREAM will offer opportunities for certification during our summer orientation.)

Details of being a DREAM AmeriCorps Member: 
  • Your service term commitment will begin on June 1, 2022 and end on August 12, 2022 with a minimum requirement of 300 hours served. To successfully complete the minimum of 300 hours, you will need to serve between 35-40 hours per week. This includes two office-closure holidays (Juneteenth and 4th of July observation) and 24 total hours (3 days) of personal time off. 
  • A living stipend of $3,500 will be provided to you in biweekly payments of $583.33.
  • AmeriCorps members are also eligible for:
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (food stamps)
  • Child care assistance
  • Student loan deferment (forbearance)
  • Other publicly-funded benefits, such as heating and utility assistance.
  • Upon the completion of the service term, AmeriCorps members are eligible to receive the Segal Education Award, which can be used to pay education expenses or repay qualified student loans. For completing the 300 hours required for your term, you will receive $1,374.60.
  • As an AmeriCorps member at DREAM, you will have the additional support of a DREAM AmeriCorps Director to help you navigate your service term and apply for publicly funded programs.
  • If you engage in work-related travel outside of your commute, DREAM will provide reimbursement for mileage.
  • We also will provide a $100 travel stipend to support expenses related to getting to and from service each day.

Requirements for a term of AmeriCorps Service: 

Work environment: This position operates in multiple spaces. The spaces included may have characteristics similar to a professional office environment, an indoor/outdoor environment with active children and students, at our rustic Camp DREAM, and within the program sites we serve. This role routinely uses computers and various softwares regularly, as well as standard office/school equipment (such as phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and printers) as well as equipment characteristic of an outdoor and indoor youth camp (pop-up shade canopies/tents, hand tools, activity supplies, food preparation equipment, storage spaces and sports equipment/toys). During the summer, conditions will be warm and activities will often be held outdoors. 

Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee/member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: 
  • This position requires comfort working in outdoor environments, regardless of the weather. This position can be very active and frequently requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee/member is regularly required to communicate with individuals who talk and hear.  
  • The employee/member may occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee/member is regularly required to observe and comprehend using vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Travel may include local travel during the work hours described. Out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be occasionally expected.
