Water Resources Design Engineer- Washington, D. C.

JMT's Washington, D.C. office is looking for a Water Resources Design Engineer to be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments. Sponsorship is not available for this position. As a condition of employment, hire will be required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Proof of vaccination will need to be submitted as part of the interview/hiring process. 
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities 
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, field notes, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Perform storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control design and computations.
  • Perform watershed studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and design/inspection of traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and SWM BMPs in both urban and rural environments.
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
  • Develop construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction including engineering drawings, exhibits, and reports.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
 
Required Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in discipline specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, FlowMaster, and/or HEC-RAS preferred

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
  • Related intern, co-op, or full-time work experience
  • Experience using Microstation and/or AutoCAD
  • Engineer-in-training certification preferred
  • Experience working in a professional water resources engineering environment preferred
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level preferred
 
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
