Colorado Springs Utilities’ Water and Wastewater department is looking for two (2) engineers; an Engineer I, II or III to join the Engineering Support Team. In this job, you will work with a team of engineers and engineering support staff to design water and wastewater linear assets. Join us in providing safe and reliable water service to our community.

These positions will be filled at an entry level (Engineer I) up through a mid-level (Engineer III). The level/classification will be determined based on years of experience, demonstrated skill level, specialized training, and aptitude of the selected candidate. Salary range $62,407 to $103,876 dependent on level.

Key Areas of Focus: 
  • Research, design, and deliver wastewater, raw water, non-potable water, and finished water linear asset rehabilitation, replacement, and new construction projects 
  • Collect, verify, validate, and analyze data for projects
  • Produce studies and alternative analyses, condition assessment reports, failure analysis reports, basis of design reports, and AutoCAD construction plans
  • Act as the project technical lead for all contracted projects. Draft scopes of work, review, and advise on technical quality of submittal documents from external engineers
  • Ensure technical quality, constructability, and cost efficiency of all deliverables for both internal and external design projects
  • Manage issues, communication, environmental assessments, real estate acquisitions, permitting, and stakeholder engagement for internal and external projects
  • Assure that projects are properly administered and completed in conformance with applicable laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations
  • Perform and manage compliance testing, inspection, remediation, and rehabilitation efforts 
  • Draft standards and specifications for wastewater, raw water, non-potable water, and finished water linear assets
  • Provide technical guidance to other employees and/or contractors and coordinate technical efforts for Projects in conformance with standards and specifications  
  • Engineer III’s will provide oversight to Engineer I, Engineer II and Engineering Support staff

Who you are...the most highly qualified candidates for these roles should have related experience in water and wastewater pipeline and system design; 6 months-2 years for an Engineer I, 2-4 years for an Engineer II, and 4-7 years for an Engineer III. Preferred related experience would include large diameter (16 inch and greater) steel, prestressed concrete cylinder pipe, ductile iron, cast iron, and high-density polyethylene pipe. Pipe rehabilitation experience including pipe bursting, slip lining, and the application of AWWA Class 2 thru Class 4 pressure pipe lining is highly desired. Ability to deliver pipeline projects from studies and alternative analysis to design, construction, and integration. Professional engineering license required for an Engineer III. An ABET accredited bachelors of science in engineering is required, with a bachelors in Civil Engineering preferred.
