Mechanical Engineer
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory, New Fuel and Exams unit of the Reactor Servicing Systems (RSS) department is seeking a mechanical engineer to design reactor servicing equipment, conduct analytical assessments, and document those assessments in design support documents. The ultimate goal of the selected candidate is to ensure safe movement and transportation of Naval nuclear fuel.
The engineer will perform engineering evaluations and analyses, make engineering decisions for all assigned tasks, apply critical thought processes to identify and assess problems, develop solutions including teaming with analysts to ensure the designs function as intended, clearly and concisely document the work, and prepare technical proposals that discuss and justify the recommendations. Cognizant areas may include planning, designing, analyzing, and testing of structural systems. Travel for this position is minimal.
Required Skills *
Intermediate:
- BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
- MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or
- Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
- SRE Qualification
Advanced:
- BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
- MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
- Currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
- Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE
