Device Engineer - Firmware

Alarm.com is seeking a passionate and talented embedded firmware engineer to join our device engineering team. The position is ideal for candidates who want to join an interdisciplinary team building cutting-edge connected IoT devices and smart sensors for home automation and security applications. Our team works with a variety of next-generation technologies (LTE, Cat-M, NB-IoT, sub-Ghz, Wifi, BLE, Lora) integrating low-power design, cellular networks, local wireless networks, sensors, and signal processing. This hands-on role bridges the gap between software and the physical world. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with software development using the C programming language.
  • Experience with microcontrollers. ARM Cortex-M familiarity is a plus.
  • Experience with event-driven and multithreaded design. FreeRTOS familiarity is a plus.
  • Experience with common communication protocols. Wireless technology familiarity is a plus (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, etc).
  • Experience with sensor integration. Digital signal processing familiarity is a plus.
  • Experience with schematic reviews and low-power design is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Design, develop, and test embedded software in C.
  • Enhance our firmware platform scalability, robustness, and capabilities.
  • Participate in system architecture and feature specification reviews.
  • Experience using revision control systems such as Git or SVN
  • Familiarity in hardware design, and schematics is a plus
  • Self-starter, analytical, tenacious problem solver
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Rigorous attention to detail with focus on robustness, scalability, and quality of products
  • Passion for working with technology and excitement for creating high quality consumer technology product
  • Collaborate with technical and nontechnical teams to build new devices to expand the Alarm.com connected device ecosystem.
