Process Engineer II

Hexcel is currently seeking a Process Engineer II for our Salt Lake City, UT, USA Carbon Fibers location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • The position will be responsible for the design, implementation and operation of mechanical and electromechanical systems used for the manufacturing of carbon fiber.
  • Responsible to develop and implement process conditions for new materials and for the purpose of realizing cost savings and improving quality.
  • Researching, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing equipment, analyzing, and monitoring carbon fiber process/products, and managing and planning capital improvements. Customer interface and support is required as needed.
  • Analyze and interpret carbon fiber manufacturing techniques, procedures and processing conditions.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing process problems and implement corrective measures and continuous improvement projects.
  • Plan and direct efforts of maintenance and facility engineers in the improvement of manufacturing equipment or the expansion of manufacturing facilities.
  • Assist in directing equipment repairs and upgrades.
  • Provides concise design criteria and process constraints for facility expansions or improvements and assume responsibility for all new or improved equipment start up exercises and tests.
  • Develop and implement carbon fiber processing conditions for new equipment and new materials. Manage qualification efforts required for new equipment, processes and materials. Provide training as necessary to operations personnel.
  • Evaluate carbon fiber processing conditions and resultant material properties and troubleshoot as necessary utilizing SPC techniques. Assume full responsibility for managing process conditions to meet Process Control Document requirements and mechanical and physical properties.

Qualifications:

  • BS – Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or Materials Science Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ in a continuous process industry or relevant carbon fiber experience. Master’s degree would be considered experience.
  • Proven ability to evaluate, develop and manage process parameters in the manufacture of products.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs. Six Sigma Green Belt training preferred.
  • Ability to manage capital projects.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Current computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SPC and other statistical techniques.
  • Experience with mechanical and electromechanical systems.
