Biomechanical Engineering Spring Co-op

Position Description:
Trek’s Performance Research Team is seeking an intern looking to hone their skills in a research lab setting by collecting and analyzing data from biomechanical engineering test equipment. The intern will work in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with product development teams (frames, components, accessories, etc.) to evaluate prototypes from a rider-focused test perspective. The ideal candidate has had coursework or research experience that includes developing test protocols, administering studies working with human subjects, and/or analyzing biomechanical data by way of writing MATLAB scripts.
 
Our Spring Co-op is a 6-month program, from January - June 2022. This is a paid internship ($15.00/hour), that's right; we're paying you to spend time with us, get some work done, and have some FUN while doing it! This Co-op will take place at our awesome Headquarters, based in Waterloo, Wisconsin. 
 
Responsibilities:
·      Work with Senior Biomechanical Engineer to administer biomechanical engineering-focused studies for the Trek Performance Research team
·      Develop new biomechanics protocols based on the needs of various product development teams (frames, components, accessories, etc.)
·      Collaborate with product development teams to analyze study data with action-focused conclusions
·      Write code to read and analyze raw biomechanical data
 
Requirements:
·      Minimum third-year student pursuing B.S. in one of the following:
·      Biomechanical Engineering
·      Human Factors Engineering
·      Mechanical Engineering
·      Computer Science
·      Sports Science
·      Graduate students and post-grad professionals will be considered
·      Proficiency in Excel
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with human test subjects in a research/coursework setting. This may include test equipment such as EMG, IMUs, Pressure Mapping, etc.
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB and/or similar
  • Experience with bike fitting
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Prior internship experience
  • Experience working at a bike shop
  • Sport science and/or bicycling research experience
