We are seeking an Intern - Technical Project Management Grad Year Round
As a Technical Project Management Intern, you will work with a diverse team of researchers, technologists and project managers to advance Sandia's Nuclear Deterrence Mission.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Use Agile Scum methodology to manage projects
- Drive completion of tasks
- Negotiate scope/ requirements with configuration management staff and the design engineers
- Use engineering knowledge of scope to make configuration management architecture decisions
- Develop requirements for software development/ updates
- Develop presentations, lead meetings, and facilitate discussion

Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire
- Undergaduate degree in a science or engineering discipline
- Pursuing a graduate degree in business, science or an engineering discipline
- Ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment across more than one discipline.
- Excellent leadership and verbal/ written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate across science and engineering, project controls, and business disciplines.
- Knowledge of and experience with standard project management practices for technical work including project plan development and control, scope management, project scheduling, cost estimation and management, quality assurance, project staffing, communications planning and management, risk and opportunity management, and procurement management.
About Our Team
The W80-4 Project Management department is responsible for providing Science & Engineering (S&E) Project Management support to the W80-4 Life Extension Program (LEP) system team at the Sandia National Laboratories. The NW Programs are responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons, enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. The Nuclear Weapons Programs’ three principal thrusts are: (1) overseeing the enduring nuclear weapons stockpile; (2) innovative analyses and evolution of warhead systems, subsystems, and components; their production and deployment; along with the development of supporting technologies; (3) and the safe, effective, and environmentally responsible dismantlement and disposal of weapons retired from the stockpile. This department is also an integral part of the Division 8000 Nuclear Weapons (NW) Project Management Office (PMO). Informed with technical expertise in engineering disciplines, the department provides and employs program/project management (PM) resources to plan, execute, manage, and report scope, cost, schedule, performance, requirements, risk and opportunities management, aspects of quality assurance, and information management functions associated with W80-4 LEP. The team utilizes engineering expertise and knowledge of PM methodologies and tools to partner with technical line organizations to perform, oversee, and lead the PM aspects of endeavors that successfully develop and deliver Science, Technology, & Engineering (ST&E) products.

Security Clearance
This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
If hired without a clearance and it subsequently becomes necessary to obtain and maintain one for the position, or you bid on positions that require a clearance, a pre-processing background review may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation. Applicants for a DOE security clearance need to be U.S. citizens. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Members of the workforce (MOWs) hired at Sandia who require uncleared access for greater than 179 days during their employment, are required to go through the Uncleared Personal Identity Verification (UPIV) process. Access includes physical and/or cyber (logical) access, as well as remote access to any NNSA information technology (IT) systems. UPIV requirements are not applicable to individuals who require a DOE personnel security clearance for the performance of their SNL employment or to foreign nationals. The UPIV process will include the completion of a USAccess Enrollment, SF-85 (Questionnaire for Non-Sensitive Positions) and OF-306 (Declaration of for Federal Employment). An unfavorable UPIV determination will result in immediate retrieval of the SNL issued badge, removal of cyber (logical) access and/or removal from SNL subcontract. All MOWs may appeal the unfavorable UPIV determination to DOE/NNSA immediately. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the MOW may try to go through the UPIV process one year after the decision date.
