We are currently seeking a Mechanical Associate for our Mechanical Engineering Practice in Menlo Park, CA. 

You will be responsible for: 
  • Analyzing a wide variety of mechanical and materials failures in components and systems such as pipelines, pressure vessels, steam and combustion turbines, medical devices, mechanical systems, and structures
  • Conducting engineering analysis, experimental testing, and field inspections
  • Applying the principles of mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, and fracture mechanics to a wide variety of technical problems and demonstrating a depth of understanding in the areas of fracture mechanics and fatigue
  • Interacting with managers, engineers, technical and non-technical clients, laboratory personnel, and non-technical staff through both verbal and written communications
  • Demonstrating continuing growth in critical aspects of consulting, such as technical expertise, effective communications, and marketing of your own skills and capabilities as well as those of Exponent
  • Developing a consulting practice serving clients both within and outside the firm

You will have the following skills and qualifications: 
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or Mechanics of Materials
  • Experience in performing fracture mechanics analyses, including assessment of crack criticality, fatigue crack propagation, and/or fitness-for-service
  • Experience in performing laboratory testing and finite element analysis is preferable
  • Must have at least one graduate level course in fracture mechanics
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work as a member of project teams with a strong desire to contribute
  • Resourcefulness, technical curiosity, attention to detail, technical rigor, and quality
  • Willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks
  • Potential for technical and project managerial leadership
  • Ability to effectively convey complex technical information to individuals from technical and non-technical backgrounds
