Junior GIS Specialist

Position Description:
The Office of Sustainability and Climate is seeking someone with a BS degree in natural sciences (forestry, biology, environmental sciences, wildlife, fisheries, geography, land resources, ecology, hydrology, environmental management, etc.) along with experience in geographic information systems (GIS) and a GIS certificate. This position will assist us with developing maps to support work in Environmental Justice and fire sheds and to deliver climate change information, tools, and information to Forest Service specialists, managers, and the public.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Proficiently use geospatial technology (e.g., geographic information systems, image processing, and remote sensing)
  • Research geography, economics and social science to develop maps to identify environmental justice communities
  • Acquire, process; manage, and distribute data, and write metadata
  • Conduct geospatial analyses on projects related to climate and environmental justice

Qualifications:
  • BS degree in natural sciences (forestry, biology, environmental sciences, wildlife, fisheries, geography, land resources, ecology, hydrology, environmental management, etc.)
  • Experience in the fields preferably related to environmental justice, economics, and climate change
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal skills
  • A collegial and collaborative working style

Benefits:
* Weekly Pay Rate: $750
* $1,000 monthly housing stipend 
* Insurance coverage: GYF will add if requested from candidate
