Endpoint Management System Engineer

The UW-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT) Departmental Support (DS) group serves the academic, administrative, and research technology support needs of students, departments and faculty/staff on the UW Madison campus. In a typical year, more than 70 unique departments receive support from DoIT DS. This position will be a member of the Secure Endpoint and Application Management (SEAM) team within DS. SEAM team members are responsible for supporting the enterprise tools used by DS to manage 5000+ departmentally owned systems across the UW-Madison campus.

Successful team members have a broad knowledge of general IT concepts and have expertise in multiple technologies across network, hardware, and software platforms. Team members should also have, or be able to attain, advanced knowledge of endpoint management tools and best practice security concepts, especially surrounding Active Directory administration, patch management, vulnerability assessment, computer imaging technologies, and data security.

SEAM team members work in a supportive and highly collaborative environment which values providing scalable technology solutions while maintaining a firm focus on customer service. Team members are afforded the opportunity to attain expertise on a variety of enterprise endpoint management technologies used across the UW-Madison campus. Team members must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with customers and staff from diverse cultures, diverse technologies and with wide-ranging professional and nonprofessional backgrounds at different skill levels.

Creates and maintains the institution's technical infrastructure by performing moderately complex systems engineering work for non-routine and varied problems to ensure the long term requirements of systems operations and administration are met under general supervision.

Principal duties: Essential Responsibilities (80%)
1.Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves routine issues on systems, platforms, networks, and applications to ensure system security, confidentiality, compatibility, and functionality according to policies, procedures, and regulations

2.Assists with the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of routine automation, hardware, and associated equipment according to customer specifications to meet unit objectives

3.Assists with the planning and coordinating of system logistics, upgrades, and system security

4.Documents and disseminates deployed systems, system upgrades, or changes to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures

5.Installs firewalls, host and client access mechanisms, permissions, and user accounts

2.Configures, maintains, upgrades, develops, and tests IT systems and services in alignment with industry best practices
