The Main Responsibilities
As a Security Intern in our North America Operations organization, you will work collaboratively with our team to ensure all security alerts are handled and improvements are made. Tasks during the 10 weeks will include responding to alerts and running self-paced projects.
-Work with the Cybersecurity Incident Response Team (CIRT) to ensure all security alerts are handled and recommendations for improvements are made.
-Review possible malware infections
-Review emails for malware
-Review logs for security alerts
-Work with employees on security best practices and securing company assets and data.
-Work a proactive security project to help Lumen's security posture.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Education Requirements
o Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior or master’s level education status at the start of the internship, graduating August 2022 – May 2023.
o Major/Degree: In pursuit of degree in Data Science, Computer Science, MIS, Cybersecurity, and other related fields
Proficiency and understanding of:
o Windows systems
o LINUX
o Malware Technology
o SIEM Technology
o Windows end point operating systems
o Email examination
o Security principles and best practices
o Network traffic
o Server operating systems
o Basic troubleshooting computer systems
o Log review experience is a plus
Professional Attributes
o Strong drive for results and taking initiative
o Ability to be inquisitive, critical thinking, and adaptable-
o Ability to collaborate and have agility while making effective decisions
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
o Ability to interact with business partners and drive the conversation.
Work Setting
o Ideally the position will be in one of the following offices: Broomfield -CO, or Remote- Work From Home
o Intern must be able to work 30-40 hours be week during the 10-week program (June – August)
o Intern must have reliable transportation to/from work location (Lumen does not provide transportation to/from Lumen office locations)
