Coatings/Thin Film Engineer

We are currently seeking a Coatings/Thin Film Engineer for our Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Atlanta, GA. In this role you will work as part of a team to conduct materials, metallurgical, and mechanical failure analyses as well as product development and accelerated testing, with a primary emphasis on consumer electronics.

You will be responsible for: 
  • Conducting hands-on failure analysis
  • Planning and executing laboratory tests
  • Performing field inspections, materials characterization, and metallurgical analysis and testing
  • Communicating effectively with other engineers and technicians, managers, clients and administrative staff

You will have the following skills and qualifications: 
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering. Familiarity with Mechanical Engineering is desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute
  • Specialized knowledge of materials characterization techniques (SEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray, or interferometry, etc.) is required
  • Specialized metallurgical and/or materials engineering knowledge and experience in metallographic and fractographic interpretation, corrosion, thin-films processing, and thin-film mechanics is desired
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and control is desired
