Aerodynamicist

Position Summary/Job Description:
As an Aerodynamicist, you will take ownership of engineering projects spanning fundamental fluid mechanics research, aerodynamic optimization, cutting-edge CFD techniques, wind tunnel testing, real-world aerodynamic track and road testing, and aerodynamic model and code development. You will work in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with product development teams (bike frames, components, accessories, etc) and other analysis engineers to develop best-in-class products.

We're looking for passionate engineers experienced in aerodynamics or fluid mechanics. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in aerodynamics or fluid mechanics with research or job experience in those subjects. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy close collaboration with design teams, communicating results and engineering concepts to broader teams, and working on open-ended research projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop CFD models (aerodynamic, stability, & thermal) for a variety of products
  • Plan and lead wind tunnel tests, velodrome tests, and on-road tests
  • Collaborate with Trek’s professional racing teams to improve aerodynamic performance
  • Carry out multi-disciplinary design optimizations
  • Conduct fluid mechanics research – from unsteady bluff body drag reduction to flow visualization techniques
  • Make engineering design recommendations based upon past CFD and wind tunnel results
  • Create aerodynamic and environmental models and simulations
  • Travel <15%

Position Requirements:
  • B.S. in one of the following or related field:
  • Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics
  • At least two years of industry experience or an advanced degree (strong co-op experience considered)
