Interdisciplinary (Multiple Series) Student Trainee (Intern)

Job Description:
These positions are being filled utilizing the Direct Hire Authority (STEM Student Employment Program) for students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in a STEM career field within the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) C5ISR Center.

All positions classified to a student trainee series should be titled Student Trainee followed by a parenthetical title consistent with the occupational field involved; for example: Student Trainee (Human Resources Management), Student Trainee (Psychology), and Student Trainee (Civil Engineering).

The employee provides technical support to engineers/scientists as a student trainee. He or she serves as an engineering technician performing a variety of duties requiring knowledge of detailed procedures with the work being characterized by some readily acquired skill and/or knowledge in an engineering/scientific field.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

899 Series (Student Trainee Engineering):
Performs sub professional trainee tasks under close and detailed technical supervision, using equipment, instruments, or software related to a technical professional field. Is responsible for learning basic methods, techniques, and procedures and carries out specific tasks of limited scope and complexity that are generally minor phases of a larger project or assignment. Duties typically involve correlating data, recognizing discrepancies in results, and participating in an experiment, study or research project by providing support to higher level personnel. Work is reviewed in process and upon completion for conformance to instructions and established requirements. Incumbent is usually part of a Student Educational Employment Program. Performs other duties as assigned.

1599 Series (Student Trainee Computer Science):
Performs sub professional trainee tasks under close and detailed technical supervision, using equipment, instruments, or software related to a technical professional field. Is responsible for learning basic methods, techniques, and procedures and carries out specific tasks of limited scope and complexity that are generally minor phases of a larger project or assignment. Duties typically involve correlating data, recognizing discrepancies in results, and participating in an experiment, study or research project by providing support to higher level personnel. Work is reviewed in process and upon completion for conformance to instructions and established requirements. Incumbent is usually part of a Student Educational Employment Program. Performs other duties as assigned.

The job duties/responsibilities will vary per position. This can be discussed in further detail during an interview with the hiring manager, should an interview be extended. 

The student trainee series in each Occupational Group includes all trainee positions that involve periods of pertinent formal education and periods of employment in a Federal agency. The education and employment must be part of a formal student employment program. The level of education and experience completed by the student is a major consideration in establishing the level of on-the-job training and work assignments during periods of employment.
