PURPOSE
The role of this position is to support plant performance objectives through equipment inspections, process studies, monitoring process operating & control parameters, and the completion of equipment line audits. To assist the Optimization Department in the implementation of plant improvement projects such as capacity increase, quality improvement, power consumption and heat consumption reduction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform equipment inspections, audits as outlined by the process inspection schedule.
  • Interpret the results of process inspections/studies and to develop recommendations for them.
  • Organizes and initiates projects and studies of plant process equipment while making recommendations on improving operations.
  • Interacts with all levels of plant organization as required.
  • Establishes and/or maintains contact with technical experts, both within LafargeHolcim as well as industry-wide.
  • Daily review of operating and performance trends.
  • Serves as coach to the control room operators to improve performance
  • Work with environmental regulations to ensure plant compliance.
  • Circuit Control and evaluation: This includes equipment operation and the quality/consistency of the product throughout the process. Identify equipment deficiencies and work with other departments from the manufacturing team to implement corrections. Identify operational deficiencies through daily review of operating trends and work with Quality and Production departments to ensure consistent operation is maintained. The goal is to improve reliability, variability (from target), and to maximize continuous run time and performance factors. This work is to be done for all circuits (Raw Grind, Kilns, and Finish Grind). Be proficient in the use of ASPEN and TIS. Assist in the optimization of HLC and PID loop tuning.
  • Circuit equipment inspection and troubleshooting: This includes walkthroughs of all equipment lines in the raw grind, kilns, and finish grind workshops. Also includes physical inspections (internal and external) of equipment in these areas, such as mills, separators, presses, coolers, dust collectors. This will require ability to walk up/down stairs and ladders, and internally inspecting equipment that has been crash stopped (thus high temperatures).
  • Audit of equipment lines: The Process Engineer is responsible for conducting equipment audits, sampling of key material streams in the circuit, measurement of air flows, performing necessary tests on samples, calculations, and when required, final report generation.
  • Analytical Skills: Perform process control charts, probability, hypothesis test, regression and multiple correlation analysis to identify significance and impact of process variables in specific systems.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS
Reports directly to the Plant Manager. Interfaces with other plant departments to align priorities and support. Works as liaison with corporate process group, and interacts with quality, manufacturing, and Corporate Industrial Performance groups.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required Education: Bachelor's/University Degree
Preferred field of study: Engineering
Required Work Experience:   5+ years in cement or similar manufacturing environment
Required Travel Requirements: 5%
Required Computer and Software Skills: Strong computer software skills (spreadsheet and/or database) required, SAP experience a plus.
