Senior Mechanical Engineer
This position reports directly to the Engineering Director. Responsible for work in design, development, and alteration and repair of existing UGA campus buildings. Responsible for supervising others in plan, design, and estimates of various projects. Assignments are varied and applicant is expected to have a wide range of project experience in mechanical and plumbing areas. Applicant is expected to make technical decisions and to exercise considerable initiative and creativity within the scope of policy directives.
This position regularly interacts with FMD senior management and other staff members. The position also works closely with stakeholders throughout campus and outside consultants, contractors, and vendors. This position has a high degree of autonomy in decision making. This individual has a high impact on the operations. Serves as in-house expert support FMD shops, provides quality mechanical designs, and assists customers throughout campus, decisions and actions impact the infrastructure of UGA. Knowledge and experience in modern building alteration and construction methods and materials and preparation of estimates, specifications is required. Also knowledgeable in the following areas:

-  The principles and methods of surveying and inspecting sites and buildings preparatory to planning and design proposed alterations
- Ability to review, analyze and make recommendations regarding designs, plans and specifications
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of technical and professional subordinates
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Computer aided design (AutoCAD 2010 or later), Revit 2018 and later and other design software
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC Controls and the ability to prepare schematic control diagrams, I/O summaries and sequences of operation and to understand P&IDs.
Design, draw, and detail in-house renovation projects of mechanical systems for execution by outside contractors and/or university staff. Typical projects include renovations of laboratory spaces, replacement of chillers, boilers, pumps, etc. Provide Engineering support to O&M including trouble shooting and analysis of existing infrastructure (chiller plants, steam, and air-distribution)
Manage contracted design professionals. Effort includes negotiation of fees, creation of scope, review of submitted reports and construction documents, resolution of construction related issues and review payment requests. Review OUA projects posted to Bluebeam for review.
Execute construction administration activities including inspections, submittal reviews, RFI responses, etc. Supervision of Junior Mechanical engineers and designers. Includes task assignment, review work products, annual performance evaluation. Promote employee development and accountability.
This position is required to be registered as a certified mechanical engineer with the state of Georgia.
