Location: Statewide - Pierre is the preferred work location, but other locations will be considered. If the individual selected resides outside of Pierre, there will be an expectation for travel to Pierre and other locations throughout the state as work dictates.
Salary: $60,552.00 annually, depending on experience

This position will serve as the Assistant Administrator/Maternal Child Health Director in the Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) and will direct and lead the work of staff to ensure compliance with grant provisions, develop new program initiatives, establish program priorities, and coordinate efforts within OCFS and with other governmental agencies and health providers. The successful candidate will work closely with the Community Health and WIC Assistant Administrators to lead and develop program implementation and goal setting while managing federal and state grants and participating on appropriate task forces.
This is a full time position and will require travel both in state and out of state.
The location of this position is negotiable.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Staff Supervision of program staff in the Maternal and Child Health section including, Perinatal/Infant Health, Women/Maternal Health, Newborn Screening, Children with Chronic Health Conditions, Child/Adolescent Health, Home Visiting, and Family Planning.
Provide for Program Oversight & Coordination:
  • Oversee programmatic goals, grant application requirements and reports to ensure compliance and establish overall priorities for programs.
  • Ensures compliance with state laws, administrative rules, and contracts.
  • Assist OCFS program coordinators in carrying out administrative functions and in administering public health programs.
  • Work closely with and integrate programming implemented by the Home Visiting Coordinator.
  • Coordinate work load and priorities among all OCFS programs.
  • Serve as Assistant Administrator of Office of Child and Family Services.
  • Assist OCFS program administrator with general management and vision for the OCFS.
  • Work collaboratively and coordinate activities with Assistant Administrator of Community Health and Assistant Administrator of WIC.
  • Serve as a member of the Department of Health's management team.
  • Administers program activities in the absence of the administrator.
  • Provide technical assistance to program staff, department management and other offices, regarding programmatic activities.
  • Aids program administrator in the development of short and long-term goals and the office's strategic planning.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Preference will be given to background in public health, health administration, health promotion, or other public health related field. Supervisory experience is preferred. Will have a passion for women, infants and family health promotion and programming.
Knowledge of:
  • medical field, health administration or science background;
  • public health field, disease prevention, health promotion and treatment along with experience in supervision and management.
Skill to:
  • effectively build teams;
  • implement policies & procedures;
  • utilize computer applications;
  • act decisively.
