Position Overview/Duties:
The Nashville District is recruiting for a Project Engineer, responsible for accomplishing assigned engineering duties and responsibilities on several simultaneous projects. This position is located within the Nashville Integrated Project Office, Chickamauga Lock Resident Office in Chattanooga, TN. Management may select from any grade level being advertised, with the full performance grade level being GS-11.
Description of Assignment/Duties:
- Responsible for providing technical supervision and administrative field control over construction performed by contractors and subcontracts.
- Closely monitors construction progress to ensure timely progress, minimize delays and provide upward reporting to project managers.
- Conduct pre-construction conferences to assure the contractor has a clear understanding of the full scope and conditions of the contract and of their role in the Quality Control/Quality Assurance process.
- Reviews and evaluates contractor’s submittals including, but not limited to, Environmental Protection Plan, Quality Control Plan, Accident Prevention Plan, Work Plans, Construction Schedule, civil/architectural/structural shop drawings, and materials for conformity with applicable contract plans, specifications, and requirements.
- Makes on-site decisions regarding compliance with contract provisions and environmental harmony, and exercises engineering judgement to affect a solution between conflicting plan details or requirements which become evident as construction progresses.
