Graduate Research Assistant

Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) – Ph.D. Position | Spring 2027

A Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) is available beginning Spring 2027 to pursue a Ph.D. in a Science or Engineering discipline, depending on the candidate’s academic background and research interests. The position is supported by a federally funded research project investigating how genetic engineering of bacteria can be used to understand and control biological electron-transfer pathways.

The selected researcher will receive interdisciplinary training in microbial genetics, genetic engineering, biotechnology, protein characterization, and bioelectrochemistry, with access to advanced characterization techniques including AFM, SEM, and conductivity measurements of microbial cells and proteins.

Preferred qualifications: A background in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, bioengineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.

Fundamental knowledge of microbiology and genetic engineering; and hands-on experience with basic molecular biology/biotechnology laboratory techniques. 

Experience in CRISPR, protein engineering, microscopy, or computational biology is desirable.
