Postbaccalaureate Research Immersion

Research Opportunity: U-M PRIME Postbaccalaureate Program

Considering research experience before applying to grad school? Check out the Postbaccalaureate Research Immersion & Mentorship Experience Program (U-M PRIME) at the University of Michigan Medical School.

U-M PRIME is a paid postbacc research program for recent grads looking to build research experience before applying to PhD, MD/PhD, or other health-related graduate programs. The program is currently especially interested in applicants with a background in cancer research (particularly those with public health interests), but also welcomes those interested in neuroscience, biomedical research, and prospective MD/PhD applicants.

Program Highlights:

  • 1–2 year paid research position (starts September 1)
  • Matched with a faculty mentor from a pool of 500+ across U-M
  • $35,000 annual stipend + $2,000 relocation allowance
  • Health and dental benefits included
  • Built-in application support: CV/personal statement workshops, mock interviews, GRE/MCAT prep, and guidance through the grad/med school application process

Eligibility:

  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Completed (or on track to complete) a bachelor's degree in a biomedical science-related field from an accredited U.S. institution within the last 36 months
  • Not currently enrolled in a graduate program
  • Planning to apply to a PhD, dual-degree (e.g., MD/PhD), or other professional graduate program in biomedical science, data science, population health, public health, or a related health field after completing PRIME

How to Apply:
Applications require an online form with an essay, unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended, and three letters of recommendation. Note: submit an actual transcript (not an advising report or grade printout) — your institution name, courses, grades, and degree conferral date (if applicable) should be clearly visible.

📅 Deadline: August 14th for the September start — applications reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early!
