Electrical Engineering Intern

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines to design electrical systems for a wide range of building types. Electrical systems may include power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, grounding, and life safety systems.

Assist in the development of electrical designs from project kickoff through construction administration under the supervision of a Project Engineer or Project Manager. Prepare electrical plans, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.

Perform electrical design tasks including load calculations, panel schedules, lighting layouts, equipment sizing, and circuiting. Support the development of one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, and equipment layouts.

Coordinate with mechanical, structural, civil, and architectural teams to integrate electrical systems into building designs. Participate in design meetings and coordination efforts throughout the project lifecycle.

Utilize industry design software such as Revit and AutoCAD to develop construction documents. Assist with reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and supporting construction phase services.

Demonstrate the ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and contribute to projects being delivered on schedule and within budget.

 

Qualifications:

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.

Interest in the building design and construction industry, with knowledge of electrical building systems such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.

Experience or familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical design tools is preferred.

Understanding of applicable electrical codes and standards such as the National Electrical Code (NEC), energy codes, and life safety requirements is a plus.

Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines including mechanical, structural, and civil engineers.

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the intent to obtain it is preferred.
