Land Development Cost Estimator

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Land Development Cost Estimator, you will assist with preparing development budgets and quantity take-offs for residential communities and related infrastructure projects. You will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and Lombardo’s in-house civil engineering team to help support accurate budgeting, bidding, and project planning from initial development through completion.

This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their knowledge of land development, civil construction, and residential community development while working alongside experienced industry professionals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Assist in preparing land development budgets and quantity take-offs for residential and mixed-use development projects.
• Review civil engineering plans, grading plans, utility drawings, and project specifications to help determine project scope and costs.
• Support estimating efforts for earthwork, grading, utilities, paving, retaining walls, landscaping, and off-site improvements.
• Work closely with Lombardo’s in-house civil engineering team to review plans, evaluate site conditions, and improve estimate accuracy.
• Solicit pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and utility contractors.
• Assist with maintaining historical pricing databases and tracking market costs for labor and materials.
• Conduct occasional field visits and site walks to better understand development construction methods and project conditions.
• Help identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering ideas.
• Collaborate with project managers, purchasing, accounting, and development teams throughout the budgeting and construction process.
• Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital take-off tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Support integration of estimating information into company ERP and project management systems.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Background or interest in land development, civil construction, residential construction, estimating, or engineering.
• Degree or coursework in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, business, or a related field preferred, but not required.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical drawings.
• Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer applications.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively by voice, written word, phone, and computer.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Desire to establish and maintain strong working relationships with team members and trade partners.
