Engineering Intern

Summit County is recruiting a Civil Engineering Intern to help with the Engineering Department’s workload this summer. This is a non-benefited position and will begin May 2026 and continue through early Fall. Work schedule may vary but will not exceed 40 hours per week. Applicants must have a valid Utah driver’s license. 

Ideal candidates will be currently enrolled in a College of Engineering, specifically studying Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Preference will be given to those who have completed a class or have experience in surveying, design, construction, and/or maintenance of transportation systems.

Responsibilities will include a wide variety of Engineering disciplines and actives such as plan reviews and site inspections for residential and commercial projects, stormwater inspections, traffic counts and transportation studies, and floodplain reviews.

Qualified applicants will be knowledgeable in general Civil Engineering Principles, computer and Microsoft programs, and be able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.  Open until filled, First Review May 4, 2026 at 5:00 pm mountain time.

SALARY: $20.00-$22.00 hourly 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
 

  • Education and Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in a College of Engineering, specifically studying Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Civil Engineering knowledge as related to design, construction and maintenance of transportation systems.
  • Ability to utilize specialized computer programs.
  • Microsoft Office
  • ArcGIS Pro
  • Effective communications both orally and in writing. 
  • Completed a class in surveying and possess an understanding of basic principle. Special Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s license.
  • Work Environment:
  • Tasks require a variety of physical activities not generally involving muscular strain. Frequent physical activity related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and moderate lifting. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Frequent travel required in course of performing portions of job functions.
