Undergraduate Research Assistant — Engineering Education
Location: Utah State University - Logan Campus (primarily remote work)
Hours: 3-10 hours per week Start Date: Beginning of Summer 2026
Position Overview
An undergraduate research assistant is sought to support an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) project led by Emily Fitzpatrick, a Presidential Doctoral Research Fellow at Utah State University. The project focuses on qualitative engineering education research examining student experiences in foundational engineering courses.
This position is intended for students interested in research, graduate school, and engineering education, particularly those seeking to actively develop as researchers.
Responsibilities
- Assist with qualitative data collection (e.g., interviews, transcription, organization)
- Support qualitative data analysis (e.g., coding, memo-writing)
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize academic research
- Contribute to dissemination efforts (e.g., conference papers, research posters and presentations)
- Participate in regular check-ins and mentorship meetings

Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate student in engineering or a related field
- Interest in research, education, and/or pursuing graduate school
- Effective written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Preferred GPA above 3.5
- Strong applicants will demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and attention to detail
Compensation & Work Structure
- $12–$16/hour
- Flexible hours and primarily remote work
