BART 2026 Summer Engineering Internship
San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is currently seeking aspiring engineers eager to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. BART's Summer Engineering Internship Program is an opportunity for Engineering students to gain valuable training and experience that will enhance the student's educational goals and provide invaluable experience in a dynamic work environment. The Engineer Interns will partner with highly skilled engineers in planning, design, and execution of Engineering projects at various BART facilities. Intern assignments directly contribute to BART’s commitment to excellence in Engineering.
The Summer Engineering Internship Program offers an excellent opportunity to apply and expand your technical expertise and hands-on experience, building a strong foundation for future Junior Engineer roles within the Office of Infrastructure Delivery.
The Engineering Internship program is a duration of eight (8) weeks beginning on June 15, 2026, and ending on August 7, 2026. All candidates selected must be able to attend the entire program. This position is located in Oakland, CA and does not have a remote work option.
This recruitment will close upon receipt of the first 500 applications or on the posted closing date, whichever occurs first. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early.
The most qualified applicants will possess the following beyond the minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled student entering their fourth year of college or in their final graduating year at an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Must have completed basic Engineering courses to assist in completing analytical assignments.
- Must have a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
- Must possess sufficient mobility to perform field inspections and investigations.
For the Summer of 2026, this job announcement may be used to fill up to eleven (11) Engineering Intern opportunities. Candidates will be selected from one or more of the following desired engineering majors:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Systems & Train Control Engineering
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Current enrollment in either an undergraduate or graduate engineering program at an accredited college or university.
Experience: No experience required.
Other Requirements: Must possess sufficient mobility to perform field inspections and investigations.
