Civil Structural Engineer -EIT Engineer In Training

Job Title: Civil/Structural Engineer (PE) – Tank Manufacturing Industry
Location: Hemet, CA
Salary Range: $75,000 – $120,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

 

About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified Civil/Structural Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license and direct experience in the manufacturing tank industry. This role focuses on the structural design, analysis, and support of welded steel tanks, pressure vessels, and storage solutions used in industrial, chemical, agricultural, or petroleum applications. You’ll work closely with our design, production, and QA/QC teams to ensure structural integrity, regulatory compliance, and manufacturability.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design of above-ground storage tanks, vessels, and related foundations.
  • Interpret and apply industry codes such as AWWA D100, API 650, API 653, ASME, and ACI standards.
  • Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and fabrication details.
  • Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and shop personnel to ensure design feasibility and efficiency in fabrication.
  • Provide technical support during bid development, fabrication, installation, and field repair/modification.
  • Conduct structural assessments, inspections, and prepare engineering reports as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations for tank construction and operation.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of internal design tools, templates, and engineering processes.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Active PE license in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 2 years in the tank manufacturing or related heavy industrial sector preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of structural steel design, plate construction, welding practices, and foundation systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards (AWWA, API, ASCE, AISC, IBC, etc.).

 

Software Proficiency

  • AutoCAD and/or Inventor (or similar for tank detailing and layout)
  • STAAD.Pro, RISA, or SAP2000 for structural modeling and analysis
  • MS Excel (including formulas and design spreadsheets)

 

Preferred Skills

  • Field engineering experience related to tank erection, inspection, or repair.
  • Knowledge of seismic and wind loading for tank design (ASCE 7).
  • Experience working with fabrication shops and understanding of manufacturing constraints.
  • Familiarity with corrosion protection methods and coatings.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.

Pay Range: $75,000.00-$120,000.00 - DOE
