Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician (Larvacide)
Position Description: Seasonal employees work under direction of the Manager. Most work will be in the field, entailing inspection and larvicidal treatment of creeks, catch basins, drains, marsh areas, and miscellaneous sources. This position also includes preparing materials and equipment for work assignments, service requests, clearing access ways, some drainage maintenance, general maintenance, housekeeping, and assistance with frequent or routine needs. Seasonal employees are required to work dependably and cooperatively with others, maintain and appreciate safety precautions, attend training sessions as required, and operate some specialized equipment. Seasonal Mosquito Technicians (Larvicide) will operate District vehicles (pickups pulling trailers; all-terrain vehicles with mounted spreaders).
Minimum Qualifications:
·High School Graduate
·18 Years of age or over
·Possess a valid Utah driver's license to be insurable by automobile liability insurance companiesthat shall meet the current standards acceptable to the District's current automobile insurancecarrier to qualify for or continue employment with the District.
·Able to ride and maneuver an ATV (4-wheeler) with precision and skill.
·Possess, or is able to obtain before field work starts, a Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide
·Maintain vehicles, equipment, and workspace in clean, organized, functional, safe condition.
·Lift and carry 50 – 100 pounds
·Basic mechanical skills
·Able to effectively communicate in English
Applicators Permit Working Conditions:
·40-hour workweek: 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.·Identify and report potential mosquito production sites for which immediate inspection and treatment is not possible.·Use provided GPS equipment to accurately record inspection and treatment data.·Respectfully provide accurate information about mosquitoes and mosquito control and avoidance, and mosquito borne diseases to members of the public.·Inspect known potential mosquito production sites weekly and apply pesticide as needed when mosquito larvae or pupae are observed.·Able to recognize or learn to distinguish mosquito larvae/pupae from other aquatic organisms·Able and willing to traverse uneven, wet, slippery, muddy, terrain, including wading through water up to about knee-deep·No paid vacation or sick leave time.·Time off for College registration may be arranged.
Wages – Starting at $15.00 - $16.00/hour.
