Transportation Research Assistant

The transportation research program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is seeking motivated students at the undergraduate or graduate level to work on several exciting interdisciplinary transportation-related research projects with Dr. Patrick Singleton and Dr. Sarah Grajdura. Positions are available immediately and ongoing. Hours are flexible, and work can be done remotely. Enrollment in the College of Engineering is not required; students in any major are encouraged to apply, such as social sciences, mathematics, computer science, planning.

 

Project topics may include transportation safety, electric vehicles, hazard risk to transportation infrastructure, and rural travel barriers, among others. Desired skills include any or all of the following areas:

· Data or statistical analysis using R or Python

· Qualitative data collection and analysis (interviews, focus groups)

· Mapping in QGIS or ArcGIS, including StoryMaps or Experience Builder

· Machine learning and/or artificial intelligence

 

We are looking for students who think creatively, pay attention to details, and work hard on current and future research projects, contributing to a stimulating intellectual environment. Duties may include reviewing literature, conducting data collection efforts, managing datasets, applying statistical and data analytic techniques, analyzing interview data, writing technical reports and papers, and giving professional presentations. This is a great opportunity for those interested in graduate study or a career in the transportation field. There is also the option to co-author and publish journal articles.
