Civil Engineer Corps

ABOUT CEC — NAVY CIVIL ENGINEER CORPS

The Navy Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) is an elite community of officers who design, build, manage, and lead the Navy’s global infrastructure. CEC Officers command construction projects, manage multi-million-dollar contracts, lead military engineering teams (Seabees), and solve complex real-world problems around the world.

CEC is where engineering, leadership, and global impact come together.

 

🔍 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must be:

U.S. citizen

Age 19–42 at commissioning (waivers possible)

Graduate, sophomore, junior and senior-year student in an approved engineering discipline

 

Eligible degrees include:

Civil Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Environmental Engineering

Ocean Engineering

Architectural Engineering

Construction Engineering/Management

Other ABET-accredited engineering disciplines (case-by-case)

 

Additional requirements:

GPA typically ≥ 3.0 (competitive boards may vary)

Pass medical + background screenings

No engineering work experience required

 

🔧 CAREER PATHS & WHAT YOU’LL DO

CEC Officers lead in three major domains:

 

1. Public Works

Manage Navy installations worldwide.

Oversee utilities, energy systems, and facilities

Lead engineering teams and civilian workforce

Execute construction & repair projects

 

2. Contract Management

Serve as the Navy’s project engineer.

Manage multi-million-dollar construction contracts

Work directly with architects, engineers, and contractors

Ensure projects meet standards, budgets, and timelines

 

3. Seabees (Naval Construction Force)

Lead and deploy with elite military construction units.

Command Seabee platoons and companies

Build bases, airfields, roads, and humanitarian infrastructure

Operate in expeditionary or disaster-response environments

Yearly salary after graduation/Upon commissioning:

O-1: $79K–$107K (1st year)
