Structural Engineering Intern

APEX Engineers, Inc. is seeking motivated civil/structural or architectural engineering students for our Summer Structural Internship. Our interns don’t just “shadow” engineers—they dive into real project work from day one. The program mirrors the first 12 weeks of a full-time new graduate’s onboarding, giving interns a clear window into what it means to start a career in structural engineering. You’ll work alongside licensed engineers on active projects, gaining hands-on experience in design, analysis, and project coordination across a variety of building types including commercial, industrial, multifamily, and residential projects ranging from entry-level homes to high-end custom residences.

Why APEX?

  • Hands-on project experience, not just observation.
  • Exposure to diverse project types and design challenges.
  • A collaborative culture in a mid-sized firm—large enough to tackle exciting projects, small enough that your contributions make an impact.
  • A structured internship program that builds the same foundation as our full-time new graduate onboarding.

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil/structural or architectural engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of junior-year coursework by start of internship (preferred courses: statics & dynamics, structural analysis, steel, concrete, soils, foundations).
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Proficiency in Revit (primary) with working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Prior construction or design-related experience a plus.
  • This position requires the final candidate to successfully pass an E-Verify check

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to structural analysis, design, and documentation under the guidance of project engineers.
  • Develop familiarity with building codes (IBC, IRC) and design standards.
  • Create and refine building models and drawings in Revit (AutoCAD exposure limited).
  • Perform structural calculations (e.g., steel, concrete, wood, masonry, wind, seismic) using tools such as RISA and Enercalc.
  • Coordinate with project teams to support construction document preparation and design reviews.
  • Communicate with project managers and team members to manage workload, timelines, and deliverables.

Technical Exposure You’ll Gain

  • Revit-based modeling and documentation.
  • Structural analysis software (RISA 2D/3D, Enercalc).
  • Application of IBC and IRC code provisions.
  • Multimaterial design: steel, concrete, masonry, wood.
  • Practical application of wind and seismic design concepts.
  • Professional consulting skills: client-service orientation, project coordination, and workload management.

Additional Employment Information

  • This position requires successful completion of an E-Verify check.
  • We are not able to offer visa sponsorship (including CPT/OPT) at this time.
