BWSI is a world-class educational outreach program that challenges high school students across the country. For more information on the BWSI program, visit: https://bwsi.mit.edu/

TAs will spend 8 weeks in the fall teaching, guiding, and advising young high-school students (9-11th grade) through the material for the Biotechnology Course, which is an introductory course covering the fundamentals of biotechnology and its application in different sectors (agriculture, human health, and drug development). The course will guide students to learn the basics of laboratory sciences through either at-home science kits or through virtual learning platforms.

TAs for this course will have the opportunity to develop course lecture materials, virtual laboratory scientific lessons, and group activities. This position provides candidates with excellent experience in generating course materials and exploring the cutting edge of biotechnology by reporting on the latest advancements.

The TAs will assist the instructors in the day-to-day coursework, give lectures, revise lecture and capstone project materials, and be the resident ‘expert’ within each student team. The program runs from October 11 to December 6, 2025, on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST. Course assistants are expected to be available October 6 through December 6 excluding the weekend of Thanksgiving, with a commitment level of 7.5 hours/week.

Position Requirements:

Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate school students in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. Molecular biology or biochemistry (wet lab) work is preferred but not required.
