Undergraduate Research Assistant - Bryan Good, BME

 Students will perform experiments in the Cardiovascular Biomechanics Lab under the supervision of Dr. Bryan Good, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Students will complete all training required to participate in Dr. Good’s research experiments including general lab safety, biosafety training, and specific training on CVB lab equipment and experimental protocols. Students will perform experiments to understand the biomechanics of acute ischemic stroke, congenital heart disease, thrombosis, and other cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, they will study current surgical therapies and devices used to treat these diseases with benchtop experimental models.

Techniques utilized in these research projects will include bovine blood handling, blood separation and reconstitution, embolus analog creation, development of mock circulatory flow loops, mechanical testing using an Instron machine, hemocompatibility and adhesion testing, and raw data collection and analysis.
