Advantest Test Solutions, Inc. (ATS) is looking for a Mechanical Engineer Intern to join our team in Lake Forest, CA. ATS is a leading provider of massively parallel electronic test systems that includes System Level Test (SLT), burn in and semiconductor/module tests. ATS has an exciting line of high-performance test systems that support the semiconductor industry around the world. This is a unique opportunity for an engineering student with a diverse skill set and a strong desire to learn mechanical systems design and to work within several engineering disciplines.
This individual will perform a range of basic mechanical engineering functions related to the design, testing, manufacturing support, documentation and evaluation of hardware systems for testing electronic systems including semiconductors, photonics and embedded devices. Support design verification testing of mechanical systems including monitoring test stations, troubleshooting issues and logging data. Basic mechanical engineering analysis skills in stress, deflections or life analysis may be asked in support of new or revised mechanical part or assembly designs. Engineering drawing and related documentation updates and release using SolidWorks, MechWorks and PEDYN tools will be used daily. In addition, regular use of standard MS Office programs of Excel and Word will be required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team that includes manufacturing, quality assurance and technical support organizations to maintain or improve existing and new mechanical systems and assemblies.
- Recommend and design innovations and improved methods, tools and processes.
- Monitor design verification test stands and update tracking data to report progress towards meeting requirements or test plans.
- Revision to 3D CAD models using SolidWorks and update of associated 2D drawings for incorporation of redlines or other required design improvements.
- Creation and release of ECNs to existing mechanical parts and assemblies using PEDYN and MechWorks PDM programs.
- File updates and migration of existing 3D and 2D CAD files for all legacy products into MechWorks PDM database.
- Weekly reports of all assigned tasks and planned upcoming tasks to direct manager and program managers.
- All other duties and tasks that may be required.
Requirements, Education & Skills:
- Currently enrolled in (or graduated from) an accredited university and working toward a BS in Engineering: Mechanical/Thermal/Physics program. Entering Junior year or beyond is required.
- Data tracking and plotting using MS Excel or similar spreadsheet program is required.
- Experience in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD system is a must.
- Experience in a drawing/document Vaulting or CAD PDM system like MechWorks is a plus.
- Experience in creating and interpreting mechanical detail and assembly drawings using ASME-Y14.5M GD&T standards is a plus.
- Understanding of conduction and convection based Thermal systems design is a plus.
- Understanding or interpreting engineering pneumatic and electrical schematic diagrams is a plus.
- Understanding electrical cable assembly drawings and wire lists is a plus.
- This will be an onsite role at our office in Lake Forest, CA.
