Job Description and Duties
One of Department of Water Resources’ most vital responsibilities is to provide accurate hydrologic runoff forecasts that aid water management decisions, flood and drought management response, environmental and water quality decisions, and even help the public plan recreational opportunities. The River Forecast Unit (RFU) needs innovative and passionate engineers who can maintain and periodically update, create, and calibrate hydrologic models to provide timely and accurate river and reservoir inflow forecasts to State, federal, and local agency water managers across California.
The Engineer, Water Resources, under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources in RFU is a member of the State-Federal River forecasting team and is responsible for monitoring storms, preparing river and reservoir inflow forecasts, issuing flood bulletins, and performing hydrologic and hydraulic engineering studies.
