I liked having a steady and dependable job. I also worked with two of my brothers.
What I wish was different
The teamwork. You don't get to know the other cashiers very well because you clock in and the stand behind your own register for four hours while every other cashier does the same, so there wasn't a lot of time get to know each other and form any sort of work "family". In the end I was offered a position at another company not even a month after starting at Walmart. I now work at A.C.Moore where I know my fellow coworkers much better. It offers a more friendly environment and I look forward to go to work 'cause I know I have friends there.
Advice
Wear good shoes, take your breaks outside (the breakroom is stifling) and ask for Sundays off. Having that little bit of a weekend does wonders.

What I liked
I'm not very fond of this job but i like that it allows me to pay rent and keep food on the table.
What I wish was different
Management, work load, employee treatment and expectations, pay, ability to unionize, etc.
Advice
Walmart is a company that does not really care about its employees and they will look to overwork you and underpay you as much as they can. I recommend this job to anyone who needs some sort of income that is better than fast food but if you can work at some other place that respects its employees and pays them a livable wage, I would recommend you go for that instead.

Cashier
July 2019 • Lafayette, CO
What I liked
Ease of entry to the position.
What I wish was different
Promptness of management to respond to job application, ability of managers to properly schedule work times, internal cohesiveness of management, transparency about wages and inflexible scheduling.
Advice
Wal-mart is not a bad work experience on its own. The most detrimental aspect of my time there has been the incompetence of management. Otherwise, it is what it is: repetitive, consistent retail work.
