I enjoyed my experience interning with Urban Outfitters because the people, company and overall worth environment was very friendly and exciting. I definitely learned a lot about what it is like to hold a position at the corporate level from one of the most well known fashion lifestyle retailers.
What I wish was different
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and do not wish for anything to have been different. My supervisors, team and department were all very friendly, patient and eager to assist me in my learning.
Advice
Do not hold back when asking questions or when asking to shadow different positions. The company understands that as an intern, one would be very curious and hungry to learn so they encourage curiosity.

What I wish was different
I wish I could've gotten hired quicker. The hiring process took about three weeks until I was officially on the schedule.

Knit Room Intern
June - December 2019 • Philadelphia, PA
What I liked
Amazing work environment. I got to know the teams from all the brands in the knit/sweater department. I was able to design and execute fabrics for garments and learn skills in knitting I did not realize I did not know.
What I wish was different
I wish I saw more of the company during my time, but I rarely had free time to explore.
Advice
Be prepared to work long days in the studio. The job requires individuals capable of knowing how to knit on flat bed machines of various gauges.

Accounting/Finance Intern
June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA
What I liked
URBN is such a unique and diverse company. It was a very different experience from my expected internships and jobs going forward as I, like most, accounting majors am planning to go right into public accounting following graduation. The URBN internship program gave me the opportunity to meet over 90 other interns in a wide-array of positions and learn all branches of the company. Additionally, an interesting part of my internship was that it was rotational; so over a 10 week period of the internship, I was able to work with different teams and different brands within URBN each week which offered me an array of learning opportunities.
What I wish was different
Throughout the summer, all interns were tasked with completing an "intern project" to keep them busy in any downtimes. In comparison to my peers, I feel as if my project was the least structured of them and I wish this had been different. Accounting, compared to some of the other positions such as social media and branding, is difficult to make tangible. I wish there had been more structure and maybe even collaboration while working on my project.
Advice
The one piece of advice I would suggest is to attend every intern event possible and to always ask for more opportunities. There is so much to learn about URBN as it is such a large company and only continues to expand (Nuuly). Interns are presented with the opportunity to meet with CEOs, recruiters, brand presidents, etc. This is something I definitely suggest taking advantage of.

What I liked
I loved working for URBN. It has an extremely unique culture and I was able to get to know most of the interns. The program itself was very well run and there were plenty of intern events that made us feel right at home. Every day was different at Free People which was nice too!

What I liked
I liked the exposure to the retail world and getting to see how the "hands and feet" of a major corporation help to sustain the whole.
What I wish was different
I wish that there had been more incentives to both work better as a team, and to maintain a positive work environment. Often hourly-shift structured jobs lack any efforts to foster community, and this was no exception. However, corporate-run incentive structures would have added to my experience.
